FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
1. Department of Development Studies
1.1 Climate Change Specialist

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor (Temporary Full-Time – 1 Post)
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Climate Change or cognate discipline, a Master’s Degree in Climate Change passed with a merit or better and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Climate Change or a related field, passed with a grade 2.1 or better; with considerable teaching and research experience and a proven record of publications in refereed scientific journals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise Post-graduate and undergraduate students’ research projects;
  • Teach at least four of the following modules: Key concepts of climate change and sustainable development; Transdisciplinary thinking and skills; Mitigation and adaption in theory and practice; Climate change and ecosystems services; Disaster geo-information and livelihoods; Climate disaster resilience and mitigation and management;
  •  Attract and manage research grants;
  •  Participating in reach activities for climate change mainstreaming;
  • Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.

1.2 Peace and Security Studies
1.2.1. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor (Temporary Full-Time -1 Post)

Qualifications
A minimum of a Masters Degree in Peace and Security Studies passed with a merit or better and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Peace and Security Studies passed with a grade
2
2.1 or better. A PhD in Peace and Security Studies, Political Science and/or International Relations is an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise students’ research projects;
  •  Teach at least four of the following modules: Introduction to Peace and Security, Conflict Transformation, Conflict Resolution Process, Principles of International Relations, United Nations and Peace Keeping, Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice;
  •  Attract and manage research grants;
  • Participating in outreach activities within the social services sector;
  • Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.

1.2.2. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor (Permanent -1 Post)
Qualifications
A minimum of a Masters’ Degree in Peace and Security Studies passed with merit or better and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Peace and Security Studies passed with a grade 2.1 or better. A PhD in Peace and Security Studies, Political Science and/or International Relations is an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Supervise students’ research projects;
  •  Teach at least three of the following areas module: Introduction to Peace and Security, Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice, Conflict Transformation, Human Security and Development, Gender, Peace and Security, International Institutions and Conflict Resolution and International Law;
  •  Attract and manage research grants;
  •  Participating in outreach activities within the social services sector;
  •  Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.

1.3 Sociology
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor (Temporary Full-Time - 1 Post)

Qualifications
A minimum Masters’ Degree in Sociology passed with a merit and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Sociology passed with a grade 2.1 or better. A PhD in Sociology or related field is an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise students’ research projects;
  •  Teach at least four of the following modules: Introduction to Sociology, Social Psychology, Introduction to Anthropology, Contemporary Sociological Theories, Classical Social Theories and Contemporary Social Theories;
  •  Attract and manage research grants;
  •  Participating in outreach activities within the social services sector;
  •  Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.

2. Centre for Evaluation Science
2.1 Monitoring and Evaluation
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor (Temporary Full-time - 1 Post)

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Disaster and Risk Management or cognate discipline, a Master’s Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation passed with a merit or better and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Disaster and Risk Management or Geo-Information Systems or a related field, passed with a grade 2.1 or better.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise post graduate students on attachment;
  •  Teach modules in the following areas: Environmental Monitoring, Disaster Risk Assessment for Resilience Planning and Thematic issues in Monitoring and Evaluation;
  •  Attract consultancy opportunities;
  •  Participating in reach activities within the social services sector;
  •  Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.

2.2 Monitoring and Evaluation
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor (Temporary Full-Time - 1 Post)

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation passed with a merit or better, Undergraduate Honours Degree in Statistics or Economics or Information Technology passed with a grade 2.1 or better, a PhD in Monitoring and Evaluation will be a distinct advantage and some considerable University teaching experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise students’ research projects;
  •  Teach modules in the following areas: Impact Evaluation, Statistics and Computer Packages for Monitoring and Evaluation;
  •  Attract consultancy opportunities;
  •  Participating in community outreach activities;
  •  Participation in income generation projects;
  •  Ability to innovate and facilitate service delivery.
